HK style cafe is loud, proud, and known for their Portuguese sauce in chicken.
But if I'm completely honest, the way they do their Portuguese sauce isn't up my alley. Not to say it's bad, I just felt it didn't have the same consistency that I like. Worth trying though!
They also apparently have a good pork bun, but I haven't tried that yet.
I got the lamb brisket rice - and lamb is one of my favourite meats, but it also didn't tickle my fancy right.
Prices are a smidge higher than surrounding HK style cafes.
Service is mediocre. Gets busy sometimes and "regulars" definitely get preference! -

This place has been around for quite a few years. After it got renovated a while back it got more popular but sadly I feel the quality has gone way down. It used to be quite good. I'm sitting here now with my family and we ordered 5-6 dishes. All were mediocre to not very good. And expensive. Everything was 11-15 dollars.
Portuguese sauce with chicken and rice - the sauce was mild as it should be - the chicken was totally flavorless and unappetizing which is a shame. They don't even bother marinating it seems like. It tastes steamed/boiled like they just made the sauce and premade the rice and chicken and then threw it in.
Spanish style rice with grouper - the sauce was basically spicy ketchup. Literally ketchup on rice, not even the tomato sauce they used for baked dishes. Who thought this was a good idea?
Curry with beef brisket - just bland. Really bland which is saying a lot for curry. Almost watery... thin texture.
Spinach and cream sauce with grouper and rice - Literally a HK style flour based cream sauce with tiny pieces of cut up spinach mixed in. Like pinky fingernail sizes. The white part, not the nail bed. Maybe one leaf's worth. Two max. I almost laughed. It didn't seem cooked either because they were very neat square pieces.
Sticky rice was ok. Average but lots of cilantro.
It's too bad because this plaza finally has parking now with the Service Ontario center closing weekends now. Hope they do better. -

Pros: Customer service here is friendly. Prices are cheap compared to the other HK cafes in Markham. Portions are also relatively big, they give you a lot more meat which is great. Their iced lemon tea and signature baked pork chop on rice is good and they take card.
Cons: It smells very bad inside... like very very bad. We were breathing through our mouths the entire time and felt like gagging. It seems like a sewer broke or there's horse/cow poop inside. they also only serve chinese or russian borscht soup. they don't serve the cream soup. also hard to find parking when Service Ontario is opened.
Baked Ox Tongue with Gravy on Rice ($10.50) - served with plain white rice on the side, wish it was like the other hk cafes where the ox tongue is on top of rice and baked instead. they did give many thick cuts of meat which was nice but overall this dish was very bland.
Baked Seafood served with Cream Sauce on Spaghetti ($11.50) - tasted pretty good, came with a lot of seafood and was baked nicely. portion was big too.
I heard there's no bones in the Hainanese Chicken Rice they serve here so I'd love to try it, or their afternoon tea time looks great, but I'll probably get it as take out instead unless they fix that terrible smell issue because I'm not trying to eat at a farm or something ugh. Would've given this restaurant a higher rating if it wasn't for that. -

Reason for Visit: Revisiting a local favourite HK cafe for dinner.
Menu: Got their baked rice and noodles. Their baked rice is very well done, lots of flavor, sauce is delicious. Portions not as big as I would had liked, but still well worth it.
Chicken wings were a bit salty but fries were super fresh and crunchy.
Service: Service is actually much better than other HK cafes . Waiter and waitresses are quick to attend.
Atmosphere: Lots of tables and booths of different sizes. Comfortable setting.
Overall: Their baked rice is actually pretty good. Prices are fair. Highly recommend. Come on March 27th for their anniversary dinner specials for 50% off. -

Location/Service
- Along Highway 7, west of Kennedy. It's in a small plaza, corner location
- Parking available within plaza (and behind the back as well), but it does get pretty busy during peak hours
- I think recently they slightly upgraded their interior (painting for example), looks a bit more welcoming and friendly. But overall typical standard place
- Staff are generally okay, not overly rude but not too enthusiastic either
Food
- Typical standard HK Cafe restaurant
- Wide variety of menu items, from baked rice to fried noodles to fried snacks, sandwiches
- The do monthly/daily special, for the month of June 2018 - Onion Pork Chop Rice for $6.99
- Includes soup of the day + coffee/tea drink
- Portion wise is not bad, filling for lunch - sauce quantity is enough and the pork chops were thin and easy to chew on
- Pretty sweet deal for a quick meal
- I have tried their other items, overall it's pretty okay standard. If you crave HK cafe, this is one of the place you can choose from
